Virat Kohli to skip upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh: Report
Virat Kohli is set to skip the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, starting on November 3.
It is reported that the Indian skipper will be rested for the home series as a part of the workload management, which has become a priority with the team playing under Kohli.
“Yes, he [Virat Kohli] will be skipping the T20 series [vs. Bangladesh] as he has been playing non-stop and needs a break considering that he has been part of the Australia series, the IPL, the World Cup, the tour of West Indies and now the series against South Africa.
“Managing the workload of the players, especially those playing all formats, is something that is a priority with this team to ensure that the players are fresh and on the top of their game at all times,” a source in the vicinity of the selection committee was quoted as saying by IANS.
Kohli, though, will return for the two-Tests, which follows the T20I series. “Yes, he will be back for the Tests,” the source added.
While several senior Indian players have taken a break, Kohli was last seen out of action in January this year when he decided to opt-out of the last two ODIs against New Zealand and the following T20I series.
The selectors will meet on October 24 to pick the squad for the Bangladesh series. It is the same date when the newly-elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly will also meet the selection panel. If Kohli is indeed given the rest, limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue.
