Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli slammed his career-best Test score of 254* and helped India post a mammoth 601/5 declared in their first innings on Day 2 of the second Test against South Africa in Pune.

The Indian skipper piled up a slew of records at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Friday.

Major records from Virat Kohli’s unbeaten double century against the Proteas:

1.) Kohli became the first Indian captain to score 250+ runs in a Test inning. In the process, he broke his own record of the highest Test score by an Indian captain. He scored 243 against Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kolta in 2017.

2.) Kohli has scored double tons against six different oppositions in Test cricket; the joint-most by any player. Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan also scored a Test double against six different opponents.

3.) Kohli is now the only Indian to smash 40 tons in international cricket as captain and is now just one behind Ricky Ponting’s record tally of 41 centuries.

4.) With a record seventh double century, Kohli became the Indian batsman with the most number of double tons in Tests surpassing Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

5.) Kohli also surpassed Sir Don Bradman to become the player with the most 150 plus scores as a Test skipper. Bradman had achieved the feat eight times, Kohli has now done it nine times.

6.) Kohli equaled Ponting’s record of scoring 19 Test hundreds as captain. The duo is now joint second on the list headed by former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith (25).

7.) Kohli also surpassed Dilip Vengsarkar’s tally of 6,868 runs to climb to the seventh position on the list of players with the most runs for India in the longest format of the game.
