During the first Test of ongoing South Africa’s tour of India in Visakhapatnam, India’s newest opening batsman Rohit Sharma scored twin centuries and in-process break numerous records.

Rohit became the first batsman to score over 300 runs in his first Test as an opener. He justified his role at the top of the order and is likely to solve India’s problem regarding their opening batsman in Test matches.

Having hit 13 sixes in the match, ‘Hitman’ also achieved the record for scoring most sixes in a single Test. He surpassed former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram who had hit 12 sixes during his career-best Test innings against Zimbabwe at Sheikhupura back in 1996.

As far as scoring two centuries in a single Test in considered, Rohit became the sixth Indian batsman to do so. Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane remain the other Indian batsmen to achieve the feat.

All the records mentioned above made Rohit the obvious candidate to win the ‘Man of the Match’ award in the series opener against the Proteas.

England women all-rounder Danielle Wyatt, who follows Indian cricket and its players on social media, lauded Rohit Sharma for his record-breaking performance in the Vizag Test.

“ROHITTTT …. what a player!!,” Wyatt captioned the pic shared on her Instagram story.
